Sam Rovit joined Kraft Foods as Executive Vice President, Strategy in February, 2011 where he is responsible for strategy, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and Information Systems.
Prior to joining Kraft Foods, Sam was a senior partner with Bain & Company, a global strategy consulting firm. Sam first joined Bain in 1988 in the Boston, MA, US, office and served in London, Sydney, San Francisco and Chicago from 1989 to 2005. From 2005 to 2007, he left Bain for industry and re-joined the firm in Chicago in 2008 to lead Bain’s Corporate Renewal Group, a turn-around and restructuring practice.
During his years away from the firm, Sam served as President, CEO and Director of Swift & Company, a $10 billion meat processor headquartered in Greeley, CO, US, with 20,000 employees across the US and Australia.
During his tenure at Bain, Sam served clients in virtually all sectors of the economy, with a particular focus on food and agribusiness.
He was head of Bain’s Global M&A Practice for several years, and led many large merger integrations. He is co-author of the 2004 Harvard Business School Press book, “Mastering the Merger: Four critical decisions that make or break the deal,” and has authored numerous articles on M&A best practices.
He is also a Director of the JW Saxe Fund, which provides awards enabling college students to pursue jobs in the public sector.
Sam earned an MBA from the Harvard Business School, a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy degree from the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy, and a BA in Public Policy Studies from Duke University.
From 1982 to 1985 Sam was a Founding General Partner of Dawson-Butwick Publishers, the leading source of news on US telecom policy.
