Spread the Feeling with a Bear Hug

Kraft Peanut Butter Bears giving out hugs at Ontario Place in support of Daily Bread Food Bank

TORONTO, ON – July 3, 2008 - Hunger never takes a holiday. Donations to Daily Bread Food Bank decline sharply during the summer months, while many Torontonians are on vacation. On July 5th, the Kraft Peanut Butter Bears will be out at Ontario Place from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. giving away FREE HUGS in an effort to end hunger. For every hug given, Kraft Peanut Butter will donate one 500 g jar of peanut butter to Daily Bread Food Bank.

If you can’t make it to Ontario Place, help spread the feeling online by visiting www.spreadthefeeling.ca to send a virtual Free Bear Hug to your friends. Each virtual hug sent will also mean a jar of Kraft Peanut Butter is donated. Whether online or in person, Kraft Peanut Butter hopes to generate enough hugs to donate up to 10,000 jars of Kraft Peanut Butter to Daily Bread Food Bank. This will help feed the nearly 80,000 people who visit Daily Bread each month

"We're absolutely thrilled that Kraft Peanut Butter is able to support us during one of our most critical times of the year when donations are historically low," says Gail Nyberg, Executive Director, Daily Bread Food Bank "Peanut butter is an especially important item for us as it is a source of 5 essential nutrients for adults and children who may not have access to a proper balanced diet."

According to a recent report by Daily Bread Food Bank, Who's Hungry: 2008 Profile of Hunger in the GTA, people accessing food banks spend an average of 77 per cent of their income on rent and housing leaving little left to put towards food and other necessities. In addition, approximately 34 per cent of the 953,000 people who visited Daily Bread Food Bank are children who require a balanced diet

"We’re very proud to be supporting Daily Bread Food Bank with this fun, heartfelt event." said Jordan Fietje, Senior Product Manager, Kraft Canada. "The unique experience of eating Kraft Peanut Butter on warm toast makes people feel great - like a warm bear hug. We want to spread those positive feelings throughout our community."

The Kraft Peanut Butter Bears, 'Smoothie' and 'Crunchy,' will be inside the main entrance of Ontario Place with arms wide open and ready to hug.
