Community Involvement

Our Commitment

Kraft Canada is committed to giving back to the communities where our employees live and work. Across the country, our employees donate time, talent, food and funds to make their neighbourhoods a better place. We focus our corporate giving on the areas where we feel we can make the most difference.  And to help us make the biggest impact possible, we team up with leading non-profit organizations that specialize in these areas:

Fighting Hunger in Canada

Our long-standing partnership with Food Banks Canada dates back more than 20 years. Food Banks Canada is the national organization representing the food bank community, working to address the short term need for food assistance and to developing longer term solutions to hunger.

Kraft Hunger Challenge Matching Program
Through our annual Kraft Hunger Challenge, Kraft Canada has matched cash donations up to $200,000 to food banks across the country.  The program has been a great success.  In the seven years since the program’s inception, over $3.5 million has been raised for Food Banks Canada’s Members and Affiliate Member food banks.

In-Kind Food Donations
Kraft Canada donates an average of 1 million pounds of food each year to Food Banks Canada’s National Food Sharing System to help feed hungry families and individuals.

Healthy Lifestyles

We also recognize the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle by balancing nutrition and physical activity.  That’s why we’ve partnered with several organizations who promote healthy lifestyles throughout Canada.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada - Cool Moves
Since 2005, Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada, through its Cool Moves program, has helped thousands of children and youth across Canada realize the benefits of a nutritious diet and regular, healthy activity. Aimed at children ages 8 to 12, Cool Moves has two distinct parts: Eat Smart, where participants are encouraged to make healthier eating choices, and Play Cool, where participants are encouraged to engage in more physical activity.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada is a leading provider of after school programs to 200,000 children and youth across Canada that support their healthy physical, educational and social development.

Dietitians of Canada/Canadian Foundation for Dietetic Research (CFDR)
To ensure that consumers receive sound, easy-to-understand nutrition, health and wellness information, Kraft Canada developed a strategic partnership with the Dietitians of Canada and the Canadian Foundation for Dietetic Research.

  • Speaking of Food and Healthy Living Award
We’ve partnered with the Dietitians of Canada for the “Speaking of Food and Healthy Living Award."  This annual national award was created in 1998 and recognizes excellence in consumer nutrition communications.  For more information go to: www.dietitians.ca/news/campaigns_food.asp or www.kraftcanada.com/en/NutritionUpdate/Pages/SFHLAward.aspx

Community Support

United Way
Kraft Canada has been a strong supporter of United Way for more than 20 years, raising money for local member organizations across the country.  Last year, we raised more than $772,000 for United Way.  Over a million people benefit from the services and programs that our employees have helped provide. In addition, Kraft Canada colleagues unite each year for Days of Caring to volunteer at local United Way member organizations where they clean, paint, garden or prepare food at the facilities.

Dollars for Doers
To support our colleagues’ interests and passions in the community, we’ve implemented an employee engagement program called Dollars for Doers that makes a $500 donation to charitable organizations where colleagues regularly volunteer at least 50 hours annually.

Cadbury Chocolate Factory School Tours (Toronto Only)
Each year, over 10,000 elementary school children visit the Gladstone chocolate factory in Toronto—home of Cadbury chocolate.  It’s here that they learn the art of making great chocolate—we call it Chocology! The tour also explores the rich history of the Cadbury family, the importance of community engagement and of course a little tour of the chocolate facility tops it off. The tour program is available from September to June. If your school is interested, please contact the Gladstone Factory Tour Program at 416-530-4055, extension 530-3571.
