Madison, WI (August 12, 2009) - Back-to-school time is just around the corner. The start of a new school year brings kids a fresh start, however, it can also be a challenging time for parents who are faced with the age-old challenge of packing a lunch that’s wholesome and something their kids will eat.
This year, parents have a little extra help. The Lunchables team is introducing a new line of Oscar Mayer Lunchables Lunch Combinations like Mom has never seen before, which includes a spring water and a number of firsts for the brand, including sub sandwiches and applesauce.
Exciting New Options
The ideal lunchtime option includes great foods that help keep kids energized so they can do great things both inside and outside of the classroom. The new Lunchables Lunch Combinations line features familiar and wholesome foods, just like the kind of food kids would bring from home.

New Lunchables Lunch Combinations
"Mom's needs and preferences are changing. We’re excited about offering her our new Lunchables Lunch Combinations since many of the incorporated items are foods we know she’s looking for, including applesauce, bread made with whole grain and spring water,” said Darin Dugan, Senior Director of Marketing, Lunchables. “Our goal is to provide convenient lunchtime options, including the kind of foods kids would bring from home, and with a little bit of extra lunchtime fun to get kids excited.”
In addition to the new recipes, the Lunchables team continues to make improvements to its products at every opportunity, including incorporating 100% juice into a current total of seven recipes.
A Makeover from the Inside Out
Changes to the new Lunchables Lunch Combinations aren’t just on the inside. The new line will be launched in an all new, clear, snap-close package that uses recyclable sleeves, bottom trays and water bottles; the first appreciable change to the packaging in the brand’s 21 years.
“Our new product packaging really tops off the introduction of this line,” said Dugan. “We’ve made it easier than ever for Mom to be able to see exactly what she’s giving her kids.”
Feeding Your Kid’s Success
Registered Dietitian Bridget Swinney understands the importance good nutrition plays in kids’ success. Swinney, who’s also a mother of two, is passionate about teaching parents how to make choices that will help their kids reach their full potential. She understands that healthy habits like eating well and exercise are the cornerstones to building a healthy body and these habits affect emotional and intellectual growth as well.
“Understanding the importance of good nutrition is vital to our children's growth. It’s imperative that we instill good habits from an early age,” says Swinney. “I appreciate that there are options like new Lunchables Lunch Combinations that help moms provide their kids with foods that will fuel their success.”

Bridget has a few tips to help parents feed their child’s potential:
• Mix it Up
From lunchtime to snack time, be sure to constantly introduce new foods into your child’s diet. Food choices that are pumped with nutrients like low-fat dairy, whole grains, lean meats and fruits are good. Eating a wide range of foods that cross all food groups helps ensure that your child will obtain all nutrients needed for optimal brain development1.
• H2O to Go
A recent survey revealed that 65 percent of children between the ages of five and 14 drink less water than they should2, which is especially troubling since dehydration can lead to a reduction in both mental and physical performance. Children need at least six to eight glasses per day3. It’s essential to keeping them healthy and helping them to perform better in school.
• Fun and Fit
Exercise is a key component of any child’s healthy development for both their brains and bodies. It strengthens muscles and improves bone health. Activities such as basketball, tennis, dancing and active video games are great ways to ensure that ALL parts of your body are getting a work out4.
Lunchables Lunch Combinations are available in the refrigerated section of grocery stores and retail for $3.49. To view the complete line of Lunchables Lunch Combinations visit www.lunchables.com.
