Heritage of Kraft Foods Philippines

Delicious Beginnings

Kraft Foods (Philippines), Inc. (KFP) has been making delicious food for the past five decades. Established in July 31, 1963, we began our manufacturing operations two years later on April 8,1965. The inauguration was a prestigious affair, with no less than then First Lady Eva Macapagal in attendance. The first products to come out of our Sucat, Parañaque City plant were Kraft Sandwich Spread, Kraft Real Mayo and Miracle Whip.

Thus began the great legacy of our brands which people have grown to love.

Through the years, Kraft Foods continued to widen its portfolio of delicious brands. The 1960s and 70s was a time of great expansion for Kraft Foods Philippines. 1967 marked the launch of Cheez Whiz in the Philippine market. In 1969 the first KFP exports were made to neighbouring Hong Kong. In fact from 1975 to 1976, KFP introduced 66 new SKUs (stock keeping unit) into the market.

At the beginning of the 80s, Kraft Foods began to distinguish itself globally by creating a truly Filipino brand: Kraft Eden Cheese. This beloved block cheese product was actually the first of its kind in the country, and started the trend of carton cheeses.

Kraft Foods and General Foods Integration

In 1989, KFP acquired General Foods Philippines and its products Tang, Kool-Aid Juicers, and Calumet Baking Powder. Incorporated in 1974, General Foods Philippines actually began as Franklin Baker Philippines (FBP) and was a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Foods USA.

1972 was monumental for General Foods as this was the year that the first jar of Tang powdered beverage rolled off the production lines. Two years later, Tang was officially sold in the mass market together with Calumet Baking Powder. From 1985 until 1989, Tang rapidly developed its variant and pack offerings, coming out with Pineapple and Grape flavors, and Tang Orange refill packs.

Growing Delicious

In 2001, Kraft Foods continued its expansion to include brands that provide nourishment and enjoyment to Filipino consumers. During this year, Nabisco brands Chips Ahoy, Oreo and a host of other well-known brands were welcomed into the Kraft Foods fold. Most recently, in February 2, 2010, Kraft Foods globally acquired Cadbury Chocolates. Its portfolio of well-loved confectioneries is the newest addition to the KFP family of delicious brands.

Today, Kraft Foods (Philippines), Inc. (KFP) is a fully-owned subsidiary of Kraft Foods, Inc. and a business unit member of Kraft Foods Asia Pacific. Sucat in Parañaque City has been Kraft Foods’ home these past decades and continues to house our offices, and cheese and grocery manufacturing plant. A National Distribution Center in Pasig City houses logistics and warehousing activities.

Delicious Brands
Today, KFP has strong leadership positions in the processed cheese market, in block and cheese spread, and in powdered beverages. We are also a strong competitor in the biscuits and confectionery categories. To grow our business in every market, we go glocal … combining our global resources with our local market expertise. We focus our investments on the biggest growth opportunities. Where we’ve invested, we’ve seen success.

Kraft Foods locally manufactures the well-loved cheese brands Kraft Eden Cheese, Cheez Whiz, and Kraft Cheddar. We locally manufacture the salad and sandwich spreads Miracle Whip and Kraft Real Mayo as well.

KFP also carries a number of Kraft Foods’ globally iconic brands. Among powdered beverages, we carry Tang, Tang Iced Tea, Tang Pick & Go, Tang Pulpy and Kool Aid Juicers. Tiger Energy Biscuits, Oreo, Chips Ahoy!, Toblerone and Cadbury chocolates, and Halls, Clorets and Dentyne candies make up our biscuits and confectionery portfolios respectively. Other brands being sold in the Philippines are Calumet Baking Powder and Maxwell House Coffee.

Additionally, KFP has an Enterprise Unit. This is a food services team, which specializes in manufacturing products for end-user customers such as fast food chains, restaurants, hotels and the like. Read more about our products in the Brands section.

Delicious Community
Kraft Foods does more than make delicious foods. We give back to the 70 countries where we operate. Our sustainability efforts meet the needs of the present generation without compromising those of the future. As such we have initiatives on energy conservation, ozone protection, water management, waste management, and reducing packaging use.  Delicious is close to our hearts. As a food company, we can make the biggest difference by fighting hunger and supporting healthy lifestyles.

We made a 3-year commitment to 19 communities all over the Philippines through a US$1.1 million partnership with the Save the Children foundation. In October 2010 KFP also adopted a public elementary school for a five-year program to transform the institution into one of the top five in Parañaque City by 2015.

Our employees share our passion for giving back. During our annual Delicious Difference Week, nearly 25,000 employees lend a hand in their communities. Employees of KFP regularly participate in the Company’s many community activities.  Read about our
